BECAUSE MUSIC WORKS
BECAUSE MUSIC WORKS
who we are
We are an award-winning DJ charity using electronic music to turn the tables on the lives of young people and vulnerable adults across Scotland.
DJing is our shop window. Behind it, we use youth-work principles of relationship building, trusted role models and consistent support to engage people who may be disconnected from traditional services, education and employment.
Through music, we help people re-engage with structured support, build confidence and skills, and unlock their creative potential to show them what they are capable of.
In doing so, we discover talented individuals with incredibly challenging life experiences but powerful stories to tell. We help them channel, express and regulate those emotions through creativity, and for those with artistic ambition, create pathways to develop as artists as well as people.
IN 2025 OUR DJS BECAME THE first scottish DJs to perform in times square nyc.
Two of our Edinburgh DJs, both of whom learned to DJ when living in supported accommodation, became the first Scot’s to ever perfom in Times Square.
On a stage that a week later hosted global UK star Sammy Virji, and that hosts dozens of global mega stars from around the world each year.
What started as a creative activity in their community took them across the world.
